| Dinner: Sausages & potatoes at Der Alte Fritz |
Packed and waiting to board our coach I could see that some people had a long night the day before and there was one guy that stuck out like a sore thumb as he was wrecked!
It was his first time overseas, recently turned 21 and had way too much to at the "cafe" the night before. He was living in the YOLO mindset and decided to finish off his last space cake before a 6 hour bus ride to Germany - big mistake!
About an hour into the ride he started getting really drowsy and threw up his breakfast on a full coach. Lets say it smelt so bad Febreeze didn't help and our tour guide had to open the fire escape in the roof to let out the stench whilst everyone else stayed clear of him whilst trying not to gag as well.
The drive down the autobahn was cool seeing all the luxury BMWs, Mercedes and Audi's zoom past our coach at speeds of 150km - if only we could do that back home on the highway.
Halfway through the drive we stopped for 'service' (basically a rest stop with a large diner inside) to have a quick bite and stretch our legs. Being a kid at heart, a bunch of us decided to head out to the kid's playground and have an intense see-saw session where you had to hold on or you would fly off the see-saw and motion sickness slowly kicked in afterwards in some of us.
We finally made it to the capital, Berlin where unloaded our luggage got our keys and checked into our room at the iBis hotel, Berlin.
The hotel was your standard but well equipped iBis hotel chain, location was great as we were close to the main attractions and made our way to dinner to sample the endless variations of sausages, mash potato, sauerkraut and beer by the litre!
You cant go to Germany without experiencing the atmosphere of a German beer hall so a bunch of us went across the street to to the Hofbrauhaus and ordered another round of beers whilst watching the band play old school songs.I'm grateful for a my Contiki group as most of us hit it off on day 1 and weren't shy to have a bit of fun. One of the guys decided to kick it off on the dance floor amongst the locals. We all joined as we danced to our hearts content to great hits such as ABBA, YMCA and Bee Gees along with the band.
At one point it felt like a big fat Greek wedding party as the locals and tourists danced together and gathered around in a big circle, singing at the top of our lungs and laughing. We definitely burnt a lot of calories and our dinner's worth of sausages sweating it out on the dance floor - definitely a great night to remember!
