INTERNATIONAL EDITION: Europe - Day 6

Drink good beer with good friends - Heineken.

Waking up in our 5 star accommodation and beginning the day with a lovely continental breakfast was a great start to day 2 of the tour.
Canals of Edam

Following breakfast we headed down to Edam the land of the famous Edam cheese. The town was small and quaint but quiet as we started off with a bike ride at 'Bike A Djik' tours. It was an overcast day with top temperatures of 15 degrees so to warm ourselves up we rode through the town with the wind blowing against our faces to the point where my nose and ears were numb.

After the bike ride amongst the canals we went inside to watched a clog demonstration and cheese tasting.
Steve the clog maker was quirky but hilarious as he whipped up a clog in a matter of 2 mins!

Stroopwafels
Cheese tasting was a highlight of the day as we sampled 10 different varieties of freshly made cheeses from pepper cheese, bacon cheese, smoked cheese and pesto cheese, etc. the lovely cheese ladies topped it off with a wine to pair with the cheese and dessert which was my favourite - Stroopwafels!
Stroopwafels is like a cinnamon stuffed waffle that has been flattened and you put it on top of a steaming hot cup of milk or tea to soften the waffle and the caramel like syrup filling oozes. These were so good I came back for more and bought 2 packets to take home.

We headed back into Amsterdam and free time to roam about until dinner so a few of guys headed on a tram to the "I amsterdam" letters in front of the Rijksmuseum and then the Heineken brewery!

I'm not a beer drinker but I highly recommend a visit to the Heineken brewery as it was interactive, fun and quite educational. We learnt how beer was made and were given tokens for a freshly chilled and brewed Heineken beer at the end of it which was great!

Most of the group were still jet lagged coming from all corners of the world a few days before so we headed back to the hotel for a nanna nap and woke up in time for dinner - its such a hard life on holidays!

Dinner was further out at a small seaside village and we had a 3 course meal with the most amazing fish I have tasted in my life. It was so good I didn't get a chance to get a photo of it but it was soft and melted in your mouth with no fishy taste or smell.

Following dinner we headed back into the city for our final night in Amsterdam with a lovely cruise down the canals and an open bar. By the time the cruise ended it was late and most of us called it a night heading back to our hotel to pack as tomorrow we were off to Berlin!

In terms of hotels, the Best Western Premier Hotel Couture was quite impressive in terms of amenities and location which was on the tram line.

Best Western Premier Hotel Couture - check it out.
