Colour My World, Wollongong Colour Run 2014

First off my dearest apologies, I have been tied up with my work and haven't had the chance to blog but better late than never. Let me reminisce back on the months I did not blog..

Colour My World!
It seems so long ago but back in May, Wollongong hosted its very first Color Run and it was a great success all round.
Tu-Tu Masterpiece
The weather was cold as we were rolling into Winter with strong wind gusts reaching to 70kms/hr but that did not stop the large numbers of keen runners ready at the start line 7am on Sunday morning.

Many were dressed up in the signature tu-tu and coloured tights ready to take on the 5km run/ brisk stroll along the beach.
The day before the event I raced to the nearest craft store and bought several metres of tulle and ribbon and made my own colour run tu-tu - Project Runway eat your heart out.
I've always wanted to be a ballerina but as I clearly do not have the slim physique of a ballerina this would probably be the closest I'll ever get to being one.
Definitely loving my tu-tu creation - please excuse the teddy bear pyjamas in the photo.
The run which was more of a walk had several colour coded stations where colour enthusiasts were standing there with handfuls of coloured cornstarch ready to attack.
The colour stations included:
1. Pink station along Cliff Road the colour enthusiasts were ready with water guns filled with pink water to drench us all.

2. Blue station - aka the "Smurfs" station located at Lang Park was lined with black tarp on the grass and people on the side throwing blue powder as we ran on by. It was funny to see people rolling in the powder to get as much blue on them as they could.

Bubbles Central
3. Orange station - aka "Oompa Loompa" station was decked out as we ran past the lighthouse. The wind took away most of the powder so some runners were happy to stand still and get handfuls of orange powder thrown right at them.

4. Bubbles station - this was a magical! With bubble machines going into overdrive by the continental baths, many took the occasion for a selfie or two.

5. Yellow station - we we're almost near the finish line but the yellow haze was the final station.

It was a home run to the big party at Stuart Park where we we're each given a sachet of coloured powder ready to throw into the air upon countdown to celebrate the 5K run of happiness.
We walked into the the hazy mosh pit filled with other colour runners all jumping up and down to the blaring music - it was so loud the whole of Wollongong came out to party at 11am.

I ended up with a looking like an Oompah Loompa having several sachets of orange thrown about as we danced. Orange was all over me from top to bottom covering my hair, face, hands and somehow wedged into my nail beds, luckily it came off easily as I had an important work event to attend the next day.

All in all, it was an amazing day, the atmosphere was lively and I have never seen so many locals in Wollongong until today.
I am looking forward to more events for the city of Wollongong in the near future. We love the Gong!

End result: Oompah Loompa status.

Jen xoxo
